I'm trying to download an excel file (generated dynamically using C#\ASP.NET) and I get the IE10 View Downloads dialog when I click "Open" it says "abc.xls couldn't be downloaded" error but after clicking "Retry" it opens the .xls file properly in the second try.

It seems that IE9 beta had introduced content-length and transfer-encoding validation when downloading files, but found it was too problematic since many servers didn't send proper values for these downloads that are processed through code. Apparently they turned it back on in IE10 however and just hoped for the best.

You cannot download files or view files from a website when you connect to the site over HTTPS (secure sites) by using Internet Explorer 9 or a later version. For example, you visit a secure website such as a bank or other financial institution and try to download or view a PDF file. The file does not appear in Internet Explorer and you may see an error message similar to the following:

To download files, Internet Explorer must create a cache or temporary file. In Internet Explorer 9 or a later version, if the file is delivered over HTTPS, and any response headers are set to prevent caching, and if the Do not save encrypted pages to disk option is set, a cache file is not created. Therefore, the download fails.

Firefox includes a download protection feature to protect you from malicious or potentially harmful file downloads. If Firefox has blocked an unsafe download, you will see a warning message about the file in the Downloads panel, along with options for handling the pending download. You can open the Downloads panel to view completed and pending downloads by clicking on the Downloads button (the down arrow on your toolbar). See the articles Where to find and manage downloaded files in Firefox and How does built-in Phishing and Malware Protection work? for more information.

If downloading certain file types does not work, check to make sure Firefox is not set to handle those file types differently from others. See Manage file types and download actions in Firefox for instructions on how to view and change how different file types are handled.

Internet security software, including firewalls, antivirus programs, anti-spyware programs, and others can block certain file downloads. Check the settings in your security software to see if there is an setting that may be blocking downloads.

This happens because Firefox honors your Windows security settings for downloading applications and other potentially unsafe files from the Internet. To resolve this problem, use the solution given below.

Generally, a download manager enables downloading of large files or multiples files in one session. Many web browsers, such as Internet Explorer 9, include a download manager. Stand-alone download managers also are available, including the Microsoft Download Manager.

The Microsoft Download Manager solves these potential problems. It gives you the ability to download multiple files at one time and download large files quickly and reliably. It also allows you to suspend active downloads and resume downloads that have failed.

On Windows: Windows Attachment Manager could have removed the file that you tried to download. To see what files you can download, or why your file was blocked, check your Windows Internet security settings.

Many URLs end in default.aspx because that file serves as the default web page for Microsoft IIS servers (i.e., that's the page that opens when a user requests the site's root web page). It can, however, be changed to a different file by an admin.

Documents (Word/Excel/PowerPoint files/PDF file types) linked in SharePoint Online pages, navigation menu, lists, etc., open in the browser (or in client application!) directly either in Read-only mode or in Edit mode, based on user permissions. What if you want to force download a file instead of opening it in the browser with Microsoft Office Online applications? Here are some workarounds to generate a link that downloads the document directly (or a force download link).

I have to add the following: Even if you force Sharepoint to downlaod the file it still depends on the preferences in your browser whether or not the file is open in your browser/preferred app or just downloaded. That might also solve Stevos problem.

Once you paste the copied link into a hyperlink or button or whatever, just remove all text after the ? after the file extension and you get a link that directly downloads the file instead of opening it. Something like the below:

This error message usually pops up in the middle of a download. Sometimes, it appears immediately when you click the "download" button. And no matter how many times you try downloading your files, the process keeps failing.

Chrome is prone to several issues that affect functionalities such as downloading files. As we've indicated, this error could also stem from your computer. Hopefully, you should be able to resolve this issue using the tips we've provided.

You have selected to download a file and you receive a blank page with a "Done" message at the bottom of the browser. This may be because you do not have enough space in your temporary internet file folder to complete the download.

Internet Explorer -> menu Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> select zone (example: Internet) -> Security levels for this zone -> Custom level... -> Downloads -> File download -> Automatic prompting for file downloads -> Disable -> OK -> Yes -> OK.

Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom level > Download :Select Disable for 'Automatic prompting for file download'.Repeat this for all 4 zones.

Save the file when prompted to "Open or Save"When complete, click on the View downloads button at the bottom of the pageRight click the file that was downloadedUncheck "Always ask before opening this type of file"This is per file type. Not for everything. You may want to consider the security risks if prompted to download, executables for example.Hope this helps!

The RelativityOne Staging Explorer option enables you to rapidly transfer large amounts of data to jump-start and sustain the data pipeline for critical projects. Use this option to upload files to a staging area for RelativityOne or to download files from your RelativityOne storage location to a local computer.

You set up a new case and need to begin review quickly. Opposing counsel gives you a hard disk drive with 10GB of files you need to add to RelativityOne. You decide to use the RelativityOne Staging Explorer to upload files from the hard disk drive to RelativityOne. After you finish review of the case, you need to create productions for opposing counsel. When you produce these files to your RelativityOne storage location, you use the RelativityOne Staging Explorer to download the production to your local drive. You then ship the productions to opposing counsel.

Do you need to download files from the web but hate repeatedly clicking links? If your job involves downloading files from the web regularly, you will probably want to automate the task. Why not use PowerShell to download files much like an alternative PowerShell wget?

For example, the code below downloads a file with the name 10MB.zip from a website. Then it saves the downloaded file to C:\dload\10MB.zip. You may copy the code below and paste it into your PowerShell session to test.

When it comes to downloading files straight from the web, Invoke-RestMethod is an excellent contender. Do not be deceived into thinking otherwise. There is not much difference between using Invoke-RestMethod and Invoke-WebRequest when used for downloading files from a direct web link.

The fundamental way to use Start-BitsTransfer in PowerShell to download a file is to specify a source and destination. Using the script below, you only need to change the $source and $destination values according to your requirements.

Suppose the destination is not specified, Start-BitsTransfer downloads and saves the file to the current working directory. For example, if you run Start-BitsTransfer from C:\dload, the file downloads to the same directory.

To use the WebClient class, you need to initiate an object as a System.Net.WebClient **type. In the example below, the $webClient is the new System.Net.WebClient object. Then, using the DownloadFile() method starts the download of the file from the source.

If the source requires authentication to allow the file download, you can use the code below. The first line prompts for the credential and stores it to the $credentials variable. The value of $credential is then included in the file download request.

Like the WebClient class, you need to create first the System.Net.Http.HttpClient. Using the code below downloads the file from the $source to the $destination. Refer to the comments above each line to know what each line of code does.

In situations where downloading a file requires authentication, you need to add the credential to the HttpClient object. To include a credential to the file download request, create a new System.Net.Http.HttpClientHandler object to store the credentials.

The file download methods covered in this article works on both Windows PowerShell and PowerShell Core. This means that these methods apply to both Windows and Non-Windows systems, with the exclusion of Start-BitsTransfer. 2ff7e9595c
